Maliq is a long time Illustrator, Painter and Graphic Designer from New Jersey. “I took an interest in drawing when I was about 5 years old. My mother used to give me the tissue paper from her shoebox and a comic book, and show me how to trace images that were in the book”.
Since that time, Maliq has spent years in art training programs and went onto exhibiting his street art influenced style in prominent galleries, museums and publications.
His portfolio in the 90’s showcased illustrations for The Source Magazine, and various record labels and retail merchandise signage for Sony, MCA, BMG and Polygram music distribution.
In that same decade, he served as Associate Art Director for Prime-Time Merchandise and Licensed Products, producing an award winning Magic Trade Show booth and original visual designs for Warner Brothers Merchandise, Turner Broadcasting Merchandise, Nickelodeon along with chain Spencer Gifts among others.
Maliq is a recent graduate of Warren County College’s Graphic Design Associate’s Degree Program and Montclair State University's School of BFA Animation/Illustration program.
His first official comic book series, “MaliqMania! Missions: Introducing” is a project that started out as a 12-part illustration for his senior college thesis and grew into a classic style comic book saga. The first phase features 5 original characters, Reflex-X, Flyht, Aysia, TidalWave and Ebonee and is written and drawn by Maliq Griffin.
